Jure sanguinis "right of blood"

Jure sanguinis is a Latin phrase that means "right of blood" or "by descent". It's a principle that allows someone to obtain citizenship in Italy through ancestors born there and later emigrated. Italy has laws that allow people with Italian ancestors to claim citizenship by descent if they can document their lineage.

In Italy, children under 18 are automatically citizens if one of their parents is Italian and their birth certificate is registered with Italian authorities, regardless of where they were born.
